Norway opens embassy in Madagascar
Today Norway is opening an embassy in Madagascar, with Hans Fredrik Lehne as ambassador. Mr Lehne has previously served as ambassador to Bangladesh, among other places.
Madagascar was added to the list of Norwegian partner countries for development co-operation in 2004, among other things because of the new Malagasy government’s focus on poverty eradication and good governance. The aim of this development co-operation is to support the Malagasy government’s poverty reduction strategy and it will give priority to education and good governance.
The embassy will administer this development co-operation and seek to improve donor co-ordination under the direction of the Malagasy authorities.
