Application for registration in the electoral register for the Sami Parliament election
Closing date for application
Sami living abroad who have not been registered in the Norwegian National Population Register as residents of Norway for the last 10 years, or who have not been registered in the Sami electoral register in 1997, must apply for inclusion in the Sami electoral register. The closing date for application for registration in the Sami electoral register is Monday two weeks before Election Day. Consequently, the closing date this year is Monday 27 August at 1500 hours.
The application form for registration in the Sami electoral register
The application for registration in the Sami electoral register is printed directly on the blue cover envelope that is used when casting absentee ballots abroad. If the voter uses the form on the cover envelope, the voter must apply for registration simultaneously with casting his or her ballot. The Sami election board processes the voter’s application when receiving the absentee ballot.
It is important to fill in the application form on the cover envelope accurately. An inaccurately filled in form might make it difficult to identify the voter. If the cover envelope is not available, the voter may send a letter containing the information below to the Sami election board:
- full name and date of birth
- address
- voter’s statement affirming his or her status as Sami
- information indicating that the voter or at least one of his or her parents/grandparents/great grandparents speaks/spoke Sami at home or that the voter is the child of a person that is or was registered in the Sami electoral register.
- voter’s statement affirming his or her status as a Norwegian citizen
The application must be sent to the municipality in which the voter was registered in the Norwegian National Population Register prior to his or her departure.
