Informal Ministerial Meeting on the Environment and launch of the World Resources Institute 2000-2001 Report - Bergen 15th September

More than 20 environment ministers from all parts of the world will meet in Bergen 15 – 17 >September to discuss environment and development issues high on the international agenda. The event will start with the launch of the World Resources Institute Report "People and Ecosystems – The Fraying Web of Life". Informal Ministerial Meeting on the Environment and launch of the World Resources Institute 2000-2001 Report – Bergen 15 th September

More than 20 environment ministers from all parts of the world will meet in Bergen 15 th> – 17 th> September to discuss environment and development issues high on the international agenda. The event will start with the launch of the World Resources Institute Report "People and Ecosystems – The Fraying Web of Life". The report reveals important new information on the state of the global ecosystems.

The meeting is chaired by Norway’s Minister of Environment, ms Siri Bjerke, and co-chaired by Ghana’s Minister of Environment, mr Cletus A. Avoca. Important issues are climate change, sustainable energy, preparations for the 10-year review of the Rio conference and institutional questions. The Ministerial Meeting starts with a dialogue session Friday 15 th> at 13:45 – 18:00 p.m. Here the ministers will meet with representatives from non-governmental organisations, industry, labour and local communities. The dialogue session is open for accredited press. Venue: Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. The following two days of meetings are closed to all but ministers and their delegations. A press briefing will be given at the closing of the Ministerial Meeting on Sunday, approx. at 13:00 p.m.

Press Conference: Launch of the World Resources 2000-2001 Report

Friday 15 th> at 11:00 a.m. Venue: Radisson SAS Hotel Norge.

The president of the World Resources Institute, mr Jonathan Lash, will launch the 2000-2001 Report: "People and Ecosystems – The Fraying Web of Life". Dr Klaus Töpfer, UNEP, ms Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank and mr Thomas Johansson, UNDP, will give short comments after the main presentation. The Norwegian Minister of Environment, ms Siri Bjerke will open the press conference, and the co-chair of the Ministerial Meeting, Ghana’s Environment Minister Cletus A. Avoka, will also be present. The press is invited to lunch at Hotel Norge immediately after the press conference.
