The service covers nine main topics which are further divided into various subtopics. Each topic is presented in a simple and easy-to-follow way and provides access to more detailed and scientific presentations.

On most of the pages you will find further information about legislation and international agreements, environmental targets, references and relevant links. You will also find maps and statistics for various topics, for Norway as a whole and for each county and municipality.

Seven counties will also launch their own local State of the Environment reports on the Internet this autumn. By the end of 2001 all eighteen counties will have published such reports. Unfortunately, these will not be available in English.

Who is the service for?
You do not have to be an expert on environmental issues to enjoy State of the Environment Norway. The service aims primarily at public servants, politicians, secondary school pupils, students, teachers, journalists and environmental organisations.

Who provides the service?
The Ministry of the Environment has assigned the production of State of the Environment Norway to five subordinate environmental agencies – the Directorate for Nature Management, the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, the Norwegian Polar Institute, the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority and the Norwegian Mapping Authority. The content has been produced by the respective environmental agencies. The Norwegian Mapping Authority has provided most of the maps.
