18. desember sluttet Norge seg til EU-erklæringen om utvidelse av MACCIHs mandat.

The EU and its Member States reiterate their support for the work done by the Mission to Support the Fight Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH), which since its creation in 2016 at the invitation of the Honduran government, has been making a significant contribution to the prevention and fight against corruption and impunity in Honduras and to the strengthening of the Rule of Law in the country. The European Union and its Member States are among the most important donors to MACCIH.

In January 2020 the mandate of MACCIH will expire. The EU calls on the Honduran government to renew the mandate in its entirety. The EU supports the requests made by many Honduran stakeholders in this direction. The Special Prosecutor for Corruption (UFECIC) and MACCIH continue to be central in strengthening anticorruption efforts including through support to the necessary legislative reform and the reorganisation of the penal justice system. The excellent joint work done with UFECIC has led to significant cases being brought to justice and most importantly established the basis for further anti-corruption and anti-impunity efforts which should not be discontinued.

The Candidate Countries Turkey, Republic of North Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Serbia* and Albania*, the country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the EFTA countries Iceland and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Armenia align themselves with this declaration.

*Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
