Ministerial conference on illegal fishing

Six countries will be sending their fisheries ministers to the international roundtable conference on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Trondheim on 7 August. The conference host is Helga Pedersen, the Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs.

“This kind of fishing is both an economic and an environmental crime. It is a serious international problem that can only be solved through international cooperation. It is my hope and belief that the conference in Trondheim will bring us an important step closer in fighting IUU fishing,” the Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs said.

The ministers in attendance will be Ben Bradshaw from the United Kingdom, Ross Finnie from Scotland, Jamie Silva from Portugal, Mohand Laenser from Morocco, Ann-Christin Nykvist from Sweden and Helga Pedersen from Norway. Also attending will be State Secretary Gert Lindemann from Germany, the Icelandic ambassador Stefán Skjaldarson and European Commission Special Adviser Constantin Alexandrou.
