The Vietnamese delegation came to Oslo from Geneva, where Vietnam’s human rights implementation was examined 8 May in the UN Human Rights Council through the Universal Periodic Review. During their bilateral consultations in Oslo 14 May, Vietnam and Norway followed up the discussions from Geneva, sharing experience on a broad range of issues.
Freedom of expression, human rights defenders and the role of civil society, gender equality and capital punishment were among the items that were brought up. Vietnam made a presentation on the socio- economic development and their views on a number of issues. The dialogue was conducted in an open and constructive atmosphere. It was fruitful and contributed to the development of the relationship between the two countries.
A technical seminar with experts from both sides was held under the auspices of the Human Rights Dialogue. Focusing on criminology, access to information, gender equality and trafficking, the seminar followed up on the ongoing project- cooperation between the two countries. Both Vietnam and Norway were satisfied with the implementation of the dialogue and are looking forward to continue the cooperation on Human Rights issues in the future.
