"It is crucial to build African capacity in order to manage difficult situations on the continent", Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide said in his short address.
The Minister said the following, among other things:
- The Norwegian Government continues to give active support to peacekeeping and peace building. The UN, the AU and other regional organisations are key actors.
- AU is 10 years this year. The organisation is maturing. We see a strong African desire to take responsibility for development on the continent.
- We welcome this development and give the AU’s efforts our full support. It is crucial to build African capacity in order to manage difficult situations on the continent.
- I would welcome a continuation of the TfP continues after 2015, however, based on (and well-adjusted to) African needs and on the AU's and UN's operations.
