Monitoring of conference on civil society and conflict resolution

The objective of the project is to monitor the conference “From Reaction to Prevention: Civil Society Forging Partnerships to Prevent Violent Conflict and Build Peace” that will be arranged in the UN-building in New York 19-21 July 2005. The conference will be convened by the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict in partnership with the United Nations Department of Political Affairs. Researchers from Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) will evaluate the preparations for the conference, participate at the conference, and assess the outcomes of the conference, including implications for Norwegian politics related to the role of civil society in peacebuilding operations.
Status:
The final report, The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflicts. Assessments and Reflections (by Elling N. Tjønneland and Ingrid Samset) was submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 2005 (52 pages).
