Dear Mr Trump

On behalf of the Norwegian Government, I take great pleasure in conveying my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the United States of America.

The United States and Norway are longstanding allies, and our countries enjoy close relations and fruitful collaboration on a wide range of issues. Our friendship is strong and dates back to the early years of your nation and the ‘great migration’ from Norway to the US. The number of Norwegian Americans living in the United States is larger than the population of Norway itself. Family and cultural ties continue to grow on both sides of the Atlantic, further strengthening the political and economic bonds between our nations.  

We share common values and interests. We are committed to transatlantic solidarity and to maintaining NATO as a guarantor of allied security and stability. In challenging times, our shared commitment to peace, security and stability is more important than ever.

Norway will continue to be a trusted partner and ally of the United States. In order to succeed in addressing the global challenges of our time, the United States and its partners and allies need to stand together.

I look forward to continuing Norway’s close cooperation with the United States as you take up your duties as President.
