Deposit Guarantee Schemes

Thank you for your letter 25 May 2011 regarding the recast of the Deposit Guarantee Schemes directive.

I would like to thank you sincerely for your work in the ECON Committee regarding necessary adaptations to the Commission proposal for the new Deposit Guarantee Scheme directive in order to allow continuation of the coverage level of the Norwegian Deposit Guarantee Scheme. I am very pleased with the compromise text that was agreed on in the ECON Committee on Tuesday 24 May 2011.

With regards to the upcoming trilogue process with the Commission and the Council, I hope that, with your help, Article 5, paragraph 3 a, as you have crafted it, will also be part of the final compromise between the European Parliament and the Council.
