EU-erklæring om Tunisia
Dato: 07.01.2022 | Utenriksdepartementet
7. januar sluttet Norge seg til en EU-erklæring som uttrykker støtte til Tunisia, som en nær samarbeidspartner, på veien til demokratisk konsolidering.
The European Union takes due note of the announcement made on 13 December 2021 by the President of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr Kaïs Saied, concerning the major political milestones, in particular the parliamentary elections, in Tunisia and the timetable for their implementation in the course of 2022. Such statements are an important step towards restoring institutional stability and balance. The success of this process will depend on the concrete arrangements for its implementation, in particular its anchoring in democratic values and principles as well as its inclusiveness and transparency.
As the Tunisian people will be called upon to take sovereign decisions of great importance, the European Union reaffirms its willingness to support Tunisia, as a close partner, on the path of democratic consolidation. We also reiterate our support for Tunisia in the context of a major pandemic-related, social and economic crisis in the country, including in the context of discussions with international financial partners.
We continue to monitor closely, and in full respect of the sovereignty of the Tunisian people, the situation in the country and recall the importance of respect for the democratic acquis, the separation of powers, the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms for all Tunisians in order to guarantee the stability and prosperity of the country.
