Norwegian Government to establish new agency for export control and sanctions

‘The Norwegian business sector is contending with an increasingly complex situation when it comes to sanctions and the regulation of exports, particularly as a result of the war against Ukraine. The control of exports of strategic and sensitive goods, technology and knowledge has become more important. This has led to a growing volume of cases. The Government has therefore decided to establish a separate government agency to dedicate more resources to efforts relating to implementing sanctions and export control. These efforts are essential for our security,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

Historic Summit for Norway, the Nordic countries and NATO

When the heads of state and government convene at the Vilnius Summit on Tuesday, they will adopt new regional defence plans and reaffirm support for Ukraine. With the agreement to move forward on Sweden’s accession to NATO, this is the first Summit meeting where the Nordic region is represented as a unified region in the Alliance.

The exemptions for pets from Ukraine will be lifted from 1 July

In the spring of 2022, Norway and the EU introduced a number of regulatory exemptions allowing refugees fleeing Ukraine to bring their pets to Norway and the EU. The EU has decided to lift these exemptions and return to normal import requirements for pets from Ukraine from the 1st of July 2023. This will also apply to Norway.

Norway announces NOK 300 million for war risk insurance to support reconstruction of Ukraine

Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt is taking part in the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2023) in London on 21-22 June. The purpose of the conference is to mobilise international support for Ukraine’s economic and social stabilisation and reconstruction, including through financing private sector participation. Norway announced at the conference that it will provide NOK 300 million to fund war risk insurance and guarantee schemes for the private sector.
